In March 2024, Troy’s life changed in an instant. He began feeling strange symptoms—tingling, weakness, and a sudden loss of mobility. After a trip to Saratoga Hospital for testing, doctors couldn’t immediately determine the cause. As his condition worsened, he was airlifted to Albany Medical Center, where he was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS)—a rare autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks the nerves, often leading to paralysis.
Troy quickly lost the ability to walk, stand, or even use his arms and legs. For over a week, he was completely dependent on others and confined to a wheelchair. Every case of GBS is different, and for a time, doctors weren’t sure if he would recover.
He spent nearly two weeks in Albany Med receiving around-the-clock care, followed by an extended stay at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital to relearn basic movements and rebuild his strength.
Through it all, Troy stayed strong—for his family and especially for his two young sons, ages 4 and 1. He’s also a full-time employee at Smile Lodge, where he returned to work as soon as he physically could.
We’re beyond grateful to say Troy made a full recovery—but he’s now left with over $6,500 in medical debt, even after insurance, due to the emergency transport, hospital stays, and rehab.
This fundraiser is to help Troy get back on his feet financially, just like he did physically. Every donation helps ease this unexpected burden and allows him to focus on what matters most: his health, his children, and his future.
Thank you so much for your support
