So it all started with a colorblind test for nursing school. My optometrist sent me to a specialist, and he found some anomalies like an astigmatism and scratches on my corneas causing a foggy-like vision, or like looking through a veil of Vaseline, and it’s getting progressively worse. Yeah, not good. But here is where our healthcare system makes no sense: the surgery is covered but not the artificial replacement lens (corneas) that I need. It’s like saying, ‘Oh, we can remove your bad lung, but you have to buy the replacement.’ I’m like, so y’all just gonna let someone go blind? It’s not like this is cosmetic. How would I be able to read patient charts, etc…
I’m fundraising because I need the artificial replacement lenses to avoid going blind. This is crucial for my ability to continue my nursing education and career.
