My name is Rique, and I’m raising funds to support my father, Antonio Strong, as he battles stage 3 colon cancer and congestive heart failure. Three years ago, we lost my mother to ovarian cancer, and since then, I’ve watched my father’s health and independence decline. After my mother’s passing, Antonio was laid off from his job of 20 years in heating and air conditioning. He dreamed of starting a BBQ business, and I joined him to help make it a reality. Unfortunately, after about a year, the business failed just before his cancer diagnosis. We’ve had to use most of our savings to get by, and now I’m handling everything on my own.
On top of caring for my father, I am also dealing with my own failed spinal fusion, which causes excruciating pain every day. Despite my own health challenges, I am doing everything I can to make sure my dad is safe and cared for. The physical and emotional toll has been overwhelming, but I am determined to support him through this difficult time.
Antonio has always been the kind of father who stuck around and raised us with love and dedication, even though his own father walked out on him and his two siblings. He’s known for his big heart and willingness to help anyone in need, often supporting his family and friends emotionally and monetarily. Now, as his health has declined, he can no longer care for himself, and the financial strain has become overwhelming. The high monthly costs of electricity, water, food, gas for transportation, and medications are more than I can manage alone. The oncologist overseeing my father’s cancer care has explained that this treatment could last up to another year and will include surgeries once his heart is strong enough for the operation.
