Support while we’re away for Ben’s cancer treatment.

Welp, there’s no sugar coating it, Ben’s esophageal cancer is back. He has a new adenocarcinoma above the anastomosis of his old surgery.

While surgery is the best option for a cure, Ben is no longer a candidate for a surgical intervention this time around. Two trusted and highly respected thoracic surgeons, one at Stanford, the other at UCSF, both concur, there’s no longer a safe option for re-reconstructing his already battered stomagus.

Instead, radiation and chemotherapy treatments are being coordinated under the care of his Stanford Oncology Superhero duo, Dr. Curtis Chong and Dr. Lucas Vitzthum. Treatments started last week and so far Ben is tolerating it well. Pending no complications, treatment is anticipated to wrap up in early July. We’re staying at our Bay Area Mama’s house in San Bruno for the duration.

“How can I help?” or “What do you need?” We get asked that A LOT.

Our greatest source of stress and need while away from home is support with our aging dog and home (including 2 fishtanks and B’s abundant garden). We’ve opted to hire our favorite house sitter who has been supporting us for the past 2 years with Ben’s monthly out of county medical appointments. However, house sitting for 6 weeks is going to weigh a little heavy on our wallets. If you would like to help… we’ve set up this fundraiser to hopefully offset this cost.
