Hello everyone, under unfortunate circumstances, we have come together to help Daniel Batten and Jennifer Batten during these medically and financially difficult times.
Daniel went in for an exploratory surgery, and they ended up doing a bowel reconstruction and removed tons of scar tissue from a prior accident years ago. Once he was sent home and we thought things would go better, just three short days later, Daniel began to puke up black stuff, causing him to rush back into the ER in Elko. Once seen, they life-flighted him back into Salt Lake City and immediately put him in ICU.
Daniel now has an NG tube going from his nose to his stomach to pull everything out that they can.
Last night (Thursday, June 12th), they took him into surgery again, and the doctor said he had already grown so much scar tissue and it’s as hard as a rock, so he could not get in there without tearing up his intestines.
Daniel was told he will be staying in the hospital for quite some time, and the date he will be going home is still unknown. He will have to keep the NG tube indefinitely. The doctors also sat down and explained to Daniel and his wife that their normal day-to-day life may never be the same again.
As all this has happened unexpectedly, not only were they not emotionally prepared for this journey, they are also financially unprepared. He works hard for the money that they had to pay their bills; now it is unknown how long he will be out of work for, and he will be receiving a lot less than his average paychecks. Without the help from others, I don’t know how they would be able to get by without losing their home and other needs. I’m here to try to do what I can to help relieve them of any extra stress that I can so they can focus on getting him healed and back home.
Daniel’s day-to-day life consisted of working at NGM, and on his days off, he loved spending time with his seven grandchildren, helping coach and playing hockey, which two of his grandkids are also involved in. During the summer season, he loves to go hiking, camping, fishing, off-roading, and anything that involves the outdoors. He lights up rooms the moment he walks in with his goofy dad jokes and silly personality.
