Hello everyone, my name is Michael Bright and I am writing this post on behalf of my mother, Sophia Bright.
What can I say about my mother? She is the most genuine, sincere woman I know with a contagious laugh that you can hear from across the room that puts a smile on my face.
Unfortunately, Sophia has had a lot of health issues, and we need any and ALL help.
Since November of 2024, she’s been having abdominal pain. A lot of medical testing has been completed, such as colonoscopy, CT scan, ultrasound, etc., and have come back negative or nothing found.
During her routine yearly exam at the gynecologist, the Pap smear came back abnormal, and she was diagnosed with endometrial cancer on May 14, 2025. Having already been diagnosed with colon cancer 8 years ago and BEATING IT, we were hoping for the best outcome: a hysterectomy and no chemotherapy.
At this point, she was referred to an oncologist who ordered a PET scan. The results from the PET scan showed two things: One, the cancer had spread, and a hysterectomy was not an option. Two, there was fluid in her abdomen!
The first step was to get the fluid out, so the doctor scheduled a procedure called paracentesis on June 6, 2025. Well, before this procedure could even happen, Sophia was hospitalized on June 4, 2025, because she was having problems breathing. The morning of June 4, 2025, Sophia went to the hospital ER because of shortness of breath. We explained the recent diagnosis along with the upcoming procedure of paracentesis. The hospital admitted her that day and did the paracentesis that afternoon, where they removed 5 liters of fluid from her abdomen. However, with that being done, she was still having a hard time breathing, so more tests were run, and they found a blood clot in her lung.
As of today, June 6, 2025, Sophia is still in the hospital being treated for the blood clot and on oxygen for the shortness of breath. Once released from the hospital, she will not be able to work. As you can imagine, these hospital bills are racking up, and starting chemotherapy is right around the corner. We ask you to keep Sophia in your prayers, and if you can help out with medical expenses, that would be greatly appreciated.
