Hello, you wonderful and kind-hearted people!
My name is Sarah Cook, I’m 27 years old, and I’m doing something that feels a little awkward—but necessary. I’ve reached a point where I have no other options but to ask for help.
I am trying to raise money for a medical alert dog. For the last 8 years, I’ve been living with multiple serious health conditions. Over the past 3 years I was diagnosed with multiple neurological conditions and had brain surgery in January 2024. Since then things have gotten even more complicated. I struggle with seizures, severely low blood pressure, and neurological damage due to Chiari Malformation, along with other conditions.
Despite taking the maximum amount of medication and doing everything in my power and following all of my doctors orders, my blood pressure still crashes dangerously low. I often experience pre-syncope episodes, which puts me at serious risk.
A medical alert dog would change my life. These specially trained dogs can:
• Alert me before I faint or have a seizure, so I can take emergency medication or get to safety
• Retrieve items and help me sit or stabilize
• Apply pressure to my legs to raise my blood pressure
• Help with balance, dizziness, lightheadedness, and weakness
• Provide support and safety when walking, driving, or out in public, along with alerting people if I were in a medical emergency.
Most importantly, this dog would give me my freedom back—the ability to go on walks, hike, attend events, and simply live without the constant fear of an emergency I can’t predict or prevent, I’d truly love to do more activities with my husband with peace of mind knowing I’d be safe and we can enjoy ourselves.
Recently I experienced a seizure at work. While I was so blessed to have had a plan in place in case of an emergency, and to have wonderful & loving people who were there to support me until my husband could arrive. The truth is that the anxiety I get thinking I could have a medical emergency in public honestly causes me great fear.
If you’re able to support me in any way—through a donation, a share, or just by keeping me in your prayers—it would mean the world.
Thank you so much for reading. I know we all face struggles, but I truly believe there is always a reason to smile and find joy!
