Dear Friends and Family –
We have tough news. Despite six rounds of chemotherapy since March, Sam’s cancer is now extensive. There are no further treatment options. Sam is entering hospice at our home.
This may be a shock as her January reports were “rock stable” and recent reports showed some blood tests trending in a positive direction. However, a comparison of March and June scans showed growth of the disease throughout her abdomen. This would explain her recent GI and kidney issues. Cancer can just be unpredictable…
We were at MD Anderson in Texas when we learned this news. Sam was immediately admitted to the hospital for two procedures to relieve her symptoms related to her gastroparesis and fluid build up in her abdomen. After a difficult trip back to Montana and some time at our local hospital, she is comfortably at home and her GI issues are now managed.
Right now, Sam is focused on spending the limited energy she has to be with our four daughters. She respectfully requests that no visitors or phone calls be made at this time. She is on oxygen, and it is difficult for her to talk. A brief, encouraging text is okay, but please don’t expect a reply. As she gets settled in and more stable, she may receive visitors. Thank you so much for honoring Sam’s wishes.
We’d love ongoing prayer support and are so grateful for the love and encouragement this community has provided to us. We still hope for healing, but trust that God has numbered each of our days for His purposes. Sam is grateful that God has preserved her life far beyond what was expected! She is at peace with the Lord.
If you want to send flowers, please send after this weekend.
Thank you for your prayers, John
