My family takes care of a colony of cats that were abandoned and had nowhere to go. My mom has a lot of health issues and had just undergone double bypass surgery in November 2024, and my dad is legally blind & on disability. Mainly, my younger sister and I are left to take care of the finances of the household, including the care of the colony as well as our own personal cats.
Pip is one of the four kittens that was left at our doorstep one day 3 years ago, and they were so sick that we had to syringe feed him and his siblings since their eyes were swollen and crusted shut. We brought him and his 3 siblings back to health with lots of time and love.
Unfortunately now, Pip has come down sick again with a cold which developed into FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis, which used to be a death sentence). We brought him into a veterinary hospital that is now able to treat him with antiviral medication. The cost of his treatment, being in the ICU, the hospital stay, and the medication was already at the max my family can handle. We come to find out that because of his condition, he has become anemic. The hospital was planning to do a blood transfusion to help him; however, Pip is such a special cat that his blood type is not common, so they need to find a blood donor that matches his blood type. This transfusion is another added medical cost that we weren’t expecting to pay in addition to the credit cards we just got approved for to pay for the hospital care as we don’t have $5000 to pay right off the bat. Now with the anemic treatment plus the antiviral medication still to be paid for, we’re looking at a total of $7000 for Pip to make his full recovery (a 93% chance). We’re hopeful for Pip to be healthy again and running around the house with his 3 other siblings. Any donations would be greatly appreciated in helping my family take care of this little boy’s medical bills.
