My mom, Nelia Canoy, is 68 years old. She is a loving wife and mom to us. She had major brain surgery due to a ruptured aneurysm last May 10, 2025, and the surgery was done successfully at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center.
As the neurosurgeons monitored and checked her brain again after the operation, they saw inflammation due to hydrocephalus. On June 6, 2025, the doctors decided to perform a VP shunt surgery to drain the excess fluids.
As of today, we are still in the hospital for recovery because she is still having a fever. The test results show an infection from her surgery and acute respiratory issues because she has a weak immune system, diabetes, and hypertension. It will be a long recovery for her. She has a trachea and PEG due to her mental state of weakness, and these will remain.
We are humbly asking for help and knocking on your hearts to assist us with the expenses after her admission from the hospital, as she has no health insurance here in the US as a tourist. This is a very tough and hard situation.
