Nashira is a hardworking family woman who has unfortunately sustained the hardships, pain, and suffering of Graves orbitopathy and Thyroid Disease. Unfortunately, her symptoms came on suddenly, strong, and with a force. Nashira was a healthy, active, and vibrant 47-year-old until one day she suddenly noticed a drastic change in her weight. She started to become fatigued and tired with the simplest of tasks. This was not common behavior for a 20-year experienced Chef.
With the 30-pound weight loss in 2 months, sudden exhaustion, chronic dry eyes, body weakness, and inability to sleep, we as a family urged her to seek a second medical opinion. It was the bulging of the eyes, with the redness, inability to close them, and loss of vision that was a dead giveaway for the doctors. Nashira is currently off work due to her Graves’ disease and is getting IV injections weekly along with other treatments to get the Graves under control with the thyroid so that removal surgery can become an option.
Nashira is a humble person who has always worked hard on her own and never asked for any help. As a friend that is like family, I want to assure that she has the help, support, and financial stability to receive the treatment she needs without the stresses of worrying about “life.” I am setting up this fundraiser to assist Nashira with her medical bills and insurance premium/deductible and to help assure she’s able to make her monthly rental & bill payments while having to be off work. The doctors cannot give a definite time frame for her being out of work, but we are at minimum looking at at least 3 months. This, however, will depend on the outcome of seeing the eye specialist and determining if there is any optical nerve damage in the eyes, getting the swelling down in the eyes, and figuring out the correct mg of medication to get her thyroid at a semi-normal functioning level.
