Support Maggie as She Prepares for Her Second Hip Surgery
On Monday, June 16, 2025, Maggie will undergo her second labral tear repair surgery, marking another major step in her long and difficult recovery from a life-altering accident.
In August of 2024, Maggie’s world changed in an instant. A serious accident left her with two dislocated hips, pelvic trauma, sprained knees and ankles, spinal trauma, a concussion, and extensive soft tissue damage. Since that day, she has endured unimaginable pain and a complex, months-long medical journey that is still far from over.
Her first surgery took place on February 19, 2025, to begin repairing the damage to her hips. That recovery has been slow and challenging, requiring ongoing imaging, physical therapy, pain management, and the daily support of her family — especially her husband, who has become her primary caregiver.
Now, her medical team has scheduled the second hip surgery for June 16. This procedure, like the first, will require several months of recovery and rehabilitation. While her husband, Bryan, will continue to support her during the first week of recovery and be available on weekends, there will still be long stretches during the weekdays when Maggie will be alone until he returns home from work. Without assistance, she will be completely bedridden and unable to perform basic self care tasks. In order to heal safely, Maggie must now hire a caregiver to assist with care and mobility for at least three weeks following surgery. Tasks that were once second nature — like getting dressed, bathing and toileting, walking, or preparing a meal — will be difficult and dangerous, without help.
These caregiver costs are out of pocket and come on top of the mounting medical expenses, disability-related income loss, and other financial strain the family has been facing for nearly a year.
Maggie is currently on long-term disability and still unable to return to work. While her pain has mostly subsided for the moment, that relief is temporary — after her first surgery, recovery was intensely painful and physically demanding, and her second surgery will bring similar challenges. She will again face limited mobility and increased risk of falling, especially without help during the day. Joys like holding her granddaughter or cooking meals for her family — once everyday pleasures — became nearly impossible during her last recovery, and will be again. The ongoing loss of independence has been deeply humbling and emotionally exhausting for both Maggie and her loved ones.
Despite all of this, Maggie continues to fight every day to heal. She’s doing her part — and now she needs ours.
This fundraiser will directly help cover:
Professional caregiving assistance for 3+ weeks
Transportation to and from follow-up appointments
Basic medical and mobility needs during recovery
