Keera is an incredible mother, wife, daughter, friend, and teacher who brings joy and laughter to everyone she meets. Her kindness and warmth are felt by all who know her, and she has always been the first to show up for her loved ones, near and far. Now, Keera is facing the fight of her life after her autoimmune condition suddenly worsened, attacking multiple organs including her lungs and kidneys. She is currently in the ICU, relying on a ventilator, with constant brain and heart monitoring, multiple IVs, and the possibility of needing dialysis. After being transferred from ChristianaCare to Penn by Life Flight—a cost not covered by insurance—her family is facing mounting medical expenses.
Since Keera’s hospitalization on May 16th, her wife Amanda has not left her side. The stress of nearly a month in the ICU, surrounded by alarms and specialists, is overwhelming. Amanda is on unpaid leave from work, while Keera is only receiving a portion of her pay through disability. They are also caring for their three children and trying to keep up with daily responsibilities at home. The financial strain is immense, with medical bills, transportation costs, and the need for extra help at home like lawn and cleaning services all adding up quickly.
