My mum, Kathryn, was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer 8 years ago, given 1 year to live ma is still fighting for her life today.
Through multiple surgery’s including 2 HIPEC surgery’s, and over 100 chemotherapy sessions, some treatments working for a while, some not at all. Moving locations for treatment, uplifting our whole lives, jobs, schools, friends and family. It had deeply affected us. We are terrified of when the day could come, us kids need our my ma, my dad needs his wife.
Ma is our rock! We are struggling to basically survive as we are on a one income family, which is not easy in today’s society, only now to be told to have to pay up to $7565 per treatment, this treatment is called Avastin, ma will need this treatment once every 3 weeks. This treatment is used with chemotherapy and hits the cancer from another angle Avastin is a tumor starving therapy, the purpose of Avastin is to prevent the growth of new blood vessels.
Oncologist has said ma needs a year of this treatment to survive.
Unfortunately if ma doesn’t get this treatment mums life expectancy is 6-12 months. My ma is a resilient, beautiful women who has so much love and care, continuing her normal day-to-day activities although some days are harder than others, ma still puts a smile on her face and always has hope. Ma needs to watch her children and grandchild grow up, as that’s one of the things keeping her going. Everyday is a battle and also a blessing to still have her in our life’s
