Help Jessica Sullins Face Breast Cancer with Strength and Security
Hello friends, family, and kind strangers,
My name is Kristin Bumgardner and I have made this fundraiser for my Aunt Jess. On May 1st, Aunt Jess heard the words no one expects to hear: “You have breast cancer.” After countless tests and consultations, her medical team determined that the safest path forward is an urgent double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction, scheduled for next Wednesday, June 11th, followed by a second surgery 12 weeks later.
Why We’re Asking for Help?
-Extended time off work. Doctors have advised a minimum 8–10-week recovery period after each surgery. Because her job is physically demanding, returning sooner isn’t an option―and her short-term disability coverage only replaces part of her paycheck.
-Loss of her husband’s income too. Her husband, Roy, will act as full-time caregiver during her recovery. He has chosen unpaid leave so he can drive her to appointments, manage medications, and help with daily tasks she simply won’t be able to do.
-Mounting medical bills. Even with insurance, out-of-pocket costs for two major surgeries, hospital stays, post-operative supplies, and ongoing oncology visits add up quickly. Copays alone are crazy expensive, and that doesn’t include everyday living expenses.
How Your Donation Will Be Used?
-Medical expenses: surgical deductibles, specialist copays, prescriptions, and medical equipment (e.g., post-surgical drains, compression garments).
-Household necessities: mortgage/rent, utilities, groceries, and transportation while both incomes are on hold.
-Peace of mind: relieving the financial stress so Jess can focus her energy on healing and beating cancer.
A Note from Our Hearts
If you know Jess, you know her as the one who is first to offer help when someone is in need and someone who is always there to support her family. Now it’s our turn to surround her with the same love and generosity she’s shown all of us.
Whether you can give $1 or simply send up a prayer for her, every single act of kindness moves her one step closer to recovery without the weight of financial worry.
From the bottom of our hearts—thank you for standing with Jess and Roy during this fight. Your support means more than words can say.
With gratitude and hope,
Kristin Bumgardner / The Sullins Family
