Hello everyone,
I’m reaching out on behalf of my sweet 16-year-old niece, Amelia, who has been in the Children’s ICU at Renown since Tuesday, June 3rd. She was admitted with a dangerously high fever of 105.9°F and was in severe respiratory distress.
Initially placed on high-flow nasal oxygen, Amelia wasn’t improving and had to be transitioned to a BiPAP machine. By Friday, there was a small sign of progress, so they tried moving her back to the high-flow nasal oxygen but sadly, her condition rapidly declined by Saturday, and she had to be intubated.
On Monday, doctors performed a blood transfusion to support her recovery. Now, there is concern that she may require ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) a life-saving machine available only in specialized children’s hospitals. The closest facilities equipped with ECMO are at UC Davis, Seattle, or Utah, and where Amelia goes next will depend on availability.
This has been a devastating and uncertain time for our family.
Felicia, Amelia’s mom, has not left her side since Tuesday and has had to take leave from work to be with her 24/7. Tyrone, her dad, has been doing everything he can, caring for their two boys and traveling back and forth to support both Felicia and Amelia.
We’re asking for any support you can give, whether through donations, shares, or words of encouragement, to help relieve the financial burden of travel, missed work, and the unexpected costs of caring for a critically ill child.
Amelia is a strong, beautiful girl with a big heart, and we’re holding onto hope every step of the way.
Thank you so much for your love, generosity, and prayers.
With love and gratitude,
The Mancia’s
