Support Eddie’s Urgent Spinal Fusion Surgery and Recovery

Hello all, my name is Eddie, and I’m raising this fundraiser for spinal fusion surgery. In August of 2024, while sitting at a red light in the middle of the day, I was rear-ended. Initially I was told I was fine but after two months of general lack of improvement, I was sent for proper imaging and it was discovered that the accident actually broke my back, right at the base of my spine. I was sent off to a consult and was told the only fix was spinal fusion surgery, and that without it I had about two and a half years before gravity finished pinching off my spinal cord. The accident had already cost my my car, job, and home, now with the severity of the break I was told I could literally do nothing but sit on my hands until I got the surgery, since even walking could make it worse. Since the accident, I’ve been living out of a rental car, working deliveries with said car since I can’t yet go back to a regular job. I barely manage to pay for the rental, phone, gas, and gym membership to shower daily, and I haven’t any kind of outside support, neither from the state (which has determined all five times I’ve applied for assistance that I’m too able-bodied to qualify for help) nor do I have friends or family. I don’t make enough to save even $5 at the end of the month, let alone make the tens of thousands it would take to pay for the surgery, the post-op physical therapy, a place to stay during pt and recovery, and the normal expenses of life during that time since I wouldn’t be able to work until healed and apparently even though spinal fusion surgery is now pretty minimally invasive it still takes months to recover from. Suffice to say, I don’t have that kind of money, and while the original consult determined I had about two and a half years before the break finished pinching off my spine, after only nine months it seems that time is coming way early. I’m already feeling what the doctors told me would be the warning signs that time was quickly running out. Random spasms, episodes of sudden loss of feeling in my extremities, intense waves of pins and needles everywhere. Even as I write this right now, my right leg is numb and feel pins and needles all over my neck, back, and chest. It’s almost 4 in the morning and this has kept me up all night, and I couldn’t sleep last night either. If I can get the money for the spinal fusion and all that, I can figure out the rest when I recover, but I can’t do anything if I lose the ability to use my legs (and with that also comes losing being able to use the bathroom). And having worked in medical once upon a time, I know this is serious, and I’m pretty sure the doctors giving me two and a half years of normalcy without surgery was way too generous. I need help. The state won’t help, and I’m already doing and have tried to do all I can to help myself. Anything helps. Please, and thank you.

Tranding Fundraisers

I’ve created this fundraiser on behalf of my dear friends, Sarah and James, who are enduring every parent’s worst nightmare — the loss of their beloved son, Leo.

We’re heartbroken to share that our dear friend Alex passed away far too soon. His light, his laughter, his incredible spirit — they touched so many, and his absence is deeply felt.

Hi everyone — Angela here, writing on behalf of Matthew (for now). On December 6th, completely out of the blue, Matthew suffered a severe stroke.
