Hi, my name is Scott Furlough, and I’m Amy Harrell’s older brother. I’m starting this fundraiser to support Amy and her husband, David, as they face an incredibly difficult season in their lives.
In November 2024, Amy was diagnosed with Stage 3 aggressive Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the bladder. This past March, she underwent a radical cystectomy and hysterectomy at Duke Cancer Center in Durham, North Carolina. While her recovery from surgery has been steady, her journey isn’t over yet.
Amy now needs six weeks of daily radiation and chemotherapy. Her treatment will take place at Duke five days a week, which means she and David will need to temporarily relocate to Durham for the full duration. They’ll need a quiet, comfortable place to stay—close to the hospital—with a living area and kitchen so David can prepare healthy meals and Amy can have a place to rest and recover. Having a stable home base will bring much-needed peace of mind as they walk through this next phase together.
We’re raising funds to help cover the cost of housing, travel, food, and medical expenses not covered by insurance. Amy has been unable to work since her diagnosis, and it’s unclear when she’ll be able to return. David will also be taking time off under FMLA to care for her full time. With two daughters currently attending college, the financial impact has been heavy.
If you’re able to give, any amount—large or small—will go a long way in providing the support and stability Amy and David need right now.
If you’re not in a position to give financially, we’d be so grateful for your prayers for Amy, David, and their daughters during this time.
Thank you for standing with them.
With gratitude,
Scott Furlough
