Help Afinity and Ashley on Their Journey to Recovery
On April 11, everything changed for Ashley and her beloved daughter, Afinity. Afinity, a precious 10-year-old, had been ill for 10 days, unable to keep food down and sleeping upright. After three doctor visits, Ashley took her to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, where Afinity was diagnosed with Permanent Junctional Reciprocating Tachycardia (PJRT), a rare heart rhythm disorder.
On April 16, Afinity underwent surgery to have a heart pump implanted, marking the beginning of a relentless roller coaster ride of hope and uncertainty. Tragically, on May 16, she suffered a major cardiac arrest. Fortunately, the doctors revived her, and she was placed on an ECMO machine for support. Just days later, on May 21, she was approved for a heart transplant, and within 12 hours, a heart was found.
On May 23, Afinity had her heart transplant. Although she is recovering, the road ahead remains challenging. Next week, Ashley will take Afinity to their temporary home with Ronald McDonald House, located just a minute from the hospital, as she will need frequent visits for ongoing care. After their time at the hospital, they’ll face a 3-4 month quarantine at home. This requires thorough cleaning and sterilization to ensure Afinity’s safety, as her life will be forever altered.
Due to these circumstances, Ashley hasn’t been able to work and won’t be able to for the foreseeable future. To support them during this critical time, we are launching this fundraiser campaign. The funds will help with medical expenses, daily living costs, cleaning supplies for their home, and necessary purchases like new mattresses and air purifiers to ensure a safe environment for Afinity.
