We’ve created this fundraiser for a young couple in our family who are reluctant to ask for help out of compassion for others struggling. Their story is one of love, hope, and strength in the face of overwhelming challenges that no one should have to face alone.
Sharif (35) & Ichrak (33) from Toledo, found their lives dramatically changed after Ichrak was diagnosed with ALS in 2021. Their bond, built on a shared love of music and deep-rooted faith, has been tested in unimaginable ways. Newly married in 2019, they spent their newlywed years searching for clinical trials as Ichrak’s health rapidly declined. Her diagnosis forced her to leave college, resulting in the loss of her scholarship visa and health insurance.
In early 2024, Ichrak was hospitalized for breathing complications and spent over a year in the hospital. Now, she’s unable to move or speak, relying on a ventilator, feeding tube, and Eyegaze communication device to communicate. Sharif has been by her side as her constant advocate and caregiver, even at the cost of his own job. He found a way to make ends meet by working gig jobs as she slept. Due to criteria of her visa, Ichrak is ineligible for benefits making it even harder to secure the care she needs.
With the help of the hospital, she was accepted into a nursing home, and after months of preparation and care training, she is almost ready to come home! Ichrak’s mother arrived from Tunisia after obtaining a visa, allowing Sharif to secure employment. Ichrak’s mother faces her own medical issues, limiting the level of care she can provide, requiring the need of home care. The costs of home care, ongoing medications, transportation, and daily living costs are a financial burden Sharif cannot manage alone.
Despite everything, they continue helping others in need. Now, as they face mounting medical bills and home care needs, they need support to bring Ichrak home! Please help give them peace and stability during this incredibly difficult time.
