This journey began in January when we learned that Amelia was not dealing with a work related injury & that it was much bigger than either of us could have imagined. Once we met her incredible group of doctors at Tufts Medical in February we started to learn what we were about to face. It was no longer about “fixing” what was broken, that’s the easy part…. The not so easy part is that we now know that Amelia has a neurological disorder called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, CRPS (in sort) has NO CURE. We can only TRY to treat the unfortunately debilitating pain with experimental therapy & medicine. If you know Amelia, you know that she considers an 8 to 10 hour work day a half days work lol. So going from her dream career of becoming a Banquet Director at some of the most well known resorts on Cape Cod to not being able to walk without a cane, is as big of a difference as she could have imagined. If you don’t understand or know anything about her condition, I encourage you to please look it up!! Amelia has not been able to return to work nor is it on the horizon anytime in our future, a sobering reality. Amelia has finally accepted her current reality & met with a lawyer to file for social security disability insurance. To both of our surprise this is not a simple, fast or easy process, Amelia might get approved in as early as 6 to 12 months from now. She’s been feeling very defeated & not herself at all, as much as I can tell her that I’m here for her just like she was here for me when I had breast cancer, it still causes her much worry & concern for our future. I will always tell her that this is just a moment in our journey & it doesn’t define us, we WILL get through this and I know everyone that loves her the way I do knows that she WILL come back from this condition!!! Thanks for all of your love & support from Amelia & I
