Hello, I’m Jo, Sean’s mom. Prior to April 13, 2025, Sean was healthy and living his life. On that day, Sean suffered a massive stroke that almost took his life. Sean is a fighter. After being in Critical ICU for 4 and a half weeks, he began to make progress. There are several levels of ICU. Then he was moved to Step Down ICU for a total of four weeks. Sean was amazing, and his willpower was awesome. He came home. Job insurance would not cover home nurse care, so his wife and I had to train in the hospital to care for him at home. Sean’s job pays no rehabilitation either. He also has no long-term benefits or pay. He is on his own. His hospital deductible is $5,000, and the medical bills have started to come in.
While home for two weeks, Sean suffered a second stroke, putting him back in the hospital in the stroke ward. We have searched for resources, filled out endless forms, only to be told it will take a year to get any benefits. Because of his job’s insurance, he is not eligible for any disability. The job offers very little. I have taken up temporary residence in Columbia to help with Sean’s care. His wife works from home and makes it to the hospital every morning by 8 a.m. to talk to doctors about his condition. This go-round, Sean has paralysis affecting his left side and must go to rehab when discharged!!! It is very stressful when you know that the financial help you need is not available. My friend told me it’s okay to ask for help. I agree, and I hope and pray that you can make a donation so that my son and family can focus on getting him back on his feet. It truly takes a village. God is our refuge and gives us strength
