Rally for Heather Gregory’s Health and Hope

Heather Gregory is responsible for giving hundreds of people a second chance at living their best life and now it is our turn to give back! The work Heather has done is so important that she was recently selected to speak at a National Reentry Summit about her journey. On June 4 she travelled to West Palm Beach where she would be a presenter at the conference on June 5. She started feeling a little under the weather upon her arrival but by the time she delivered her presentation, she had to be rushed to the hospital. On June 6, Heather was delivered the devastating news that she has Leukemia. In an instant, Heather went from being honored to speak at a National Conference, to laying in a hospital 1,000 miles from home. She went from perfectly healthy to critically ill in a matter of 48 hours. As if this wasn’t enough, Heather is one of the millions of people in our nation that falls through the cracks of affordable health insurance and not being able to afford private healthcare. She works tirelessly for a small nonprofit, The REACH Initiative that is too small to be able to provide health care coverage, but pays Heather a living wage that doesn’t allow her to qualify for any healthcare assistance. So now she is 1,000 miles from home, critically ill and no health insurance through no fault of her own. Heather has saved hundreds of lives through her work. As a person in recovery herself, she understands the barriers that people face in West Virginia when trying to overcome a substance use disorder and in some cases are justice impacted. She has helped hundreds of people successfully enter recovery programs, secure employment and begin to experience a life they never imagined. Heather has given back tirelessly to her community and now it is time for her community to give back to her. You can imagine being 1,000 miles from home with a critical illness and the need for having family travel to be with you. If it was a quick trip it wouldn’t be so difficult but the doctors believe she will not be able to travel for at least a month. If you have ever spent time with a loved one in a hospital away from home, you know how quickly the expenses add up. A hotel, meals, transportation and even something easy to overlook like parking expenses. West Palm Beach is not a cheap place to get sick! And on top of that, imagine being in the hospital for a month, especially with all the medical testing that needs to be completed for an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan, how quickly expenses would add up. Heather needs to spend her time focusing on her health and not worrying about her loved ones being able to afford to be with her or how much she is going to need eventually to pay her hospital bill. If you know Heather, she is the most humble servant around and she would never ask for help. But I am asking you to please consider donating to Heather’s journey. No amount is too small! And if you can’t afford to give, please lift her up in prayer as that is priceless! Thank you!
