Hello, my name is Tamara Luzama and I am reaching out on behalf of my newborn son, Mateo Luzama, who has a twin brother.
Mateo was born with a rare and serious condition called tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF), a defect where his esophagus and windpipe are abnormally connected. This means he cannot eat, swallow, or breathe properly on his own and requires urgent and specialized medical care, including surgery and close monitoring in the NICU.
As a first-time parent of twins, watching one of them struggle just to breathe or feed is something no one is ever prepared for. It is overwhelming and terrifying. We are doing everything we can to help him.
