On April 18th, our family’s world got turned upside down. My dad suffered a massive heart attack that night that landed him in the ICU at Reading Hospital. On Monday, April 21st, he had an Impella device placed to help the left side of his heart function. This was supposed to be a temporary fix until he could be transferred to Penn Medicine in Philadelphia.
Fast forward to April 29th when he arrived in Philly. Upon his arrival, he underwent emergency surgery for a possible intestinal blockage. The surgeons discovered his colon had died and it needed to be removed. Once that surgery was behind him, his team of doctors were waiting for his body to heal before tackling the real troublemaker, his heart. While his body was healing from his abdominal surgery, his heart started to go into ventricular tachycardia. He was heavily sedated during this time to try and give his body and heart the rest they needed, but he would still have these episodes. It was decided he would undergo an ablation (he had a 1 out of 10 chance of making it through the procedure). He made it through not only one but two. Every time we thought he was making progress, he would then take 2 steps backward.
We are now faced with my dad going into multi-organ failure with nothing the doctors can do.
Throughout this whole time, my mom has been traveling every day back and forth to Philadelphia to be by his side.
My mom and dad are the type of people who would never ask for any help. There will be a lot of medical bills in the near future and I would love to be able for my mom not to have to worry too much about what the future is going to look like.
I thank you in advance for any donations and prayers
