Joe’s surgery to remove a stint for kidney stones

Hello, I am trying to raise money to cover the cost of my husband Joe’s surgery. First of all let me start out saying for those that know me this is not an easy decision. I’m stubborn and don’t like asking for help but I am all out of options.

So here is our story.

Memorial Day 2024, my husband went to the local ER for a hyernia in his groin. He is told that he has a 9mm kidney stone trapped at the opening of the ureter that is more pressing than the hyernia. So they want to remove the stone before doing any surgery on the hyernia. Well we don’t have insurance and we werent able to find any one willing to remove the stone so he suffered all summer and fall working through all the pain.

He is put on unemployment as he is a seasonal worker and they are done for the season. Christmas Eve 2024 morning he goes to the ER again for this pain and they end up sending him to a different hospital where he had 2 stints put in. One in each kidney as he now has stones blocking the ureter on both sides. So emergency surgery gets done to keep kidney from filling up and causing more problems.

The hospital was supposed to help us with getting an application for Medicaid filed on Dec 26, 2024 and that was supposed to go back 90 days to help with any medical bills we had. Joe was in constant pain and we were back and forth to the local ER, clinic and pharmacy trying to get these stints removed once or twice a week since Christmas Eve. We get a letter from IDHS the end of February that states due to a delay in the office we may be eligible for temporary coverage effective FEB 24, 2025 and that will go back 90 days.

He gets his RIN # and is active, Docs office tries to put the bill from the surgery on December 24th in and it’s denied. Call medicaid and they say we have insurance and to tell doctor to resubmitt. Well bill still won’t go through. We finally have proof that we have medicaid and it starts covering his many prescriptions and on April 14, 2025 he has surgery to remove the right side stint and lasered 2 12mm and 1 14 mm stones that were in the right kidney. He asked to have the left side taken care of at the same time. Doc refused to do left side.

Joe goes back to primary care doc for a relase to go back to work and had asked for another pain prescription for the flare ups from the stone on the left side. We go to pick up the prescription and find out that our Medicaid has been denied.

I was told that we never had insurance because the application that was filed on Dec 26 2024 was NEVER processed.

So here we are in limbo on how we are going to get this left stint removed. Because he wasn’t working from the end of NOV to the beginning of May and I was the only income, we have maxed out all of the credit cards and are struggling trying to make ends meet.

We really need to get this left stint out as they are only supposed to be in for 6 months and on June 24 we will have reached the 6 month mark. Once the kidney stones are taken care of then they will discuss the options for the hyernia that started this nightmare.

Greatly appreciate any help we can get as this really is our last resort. Thank you

Tranding Fundraisers

I’ve created this fundraiser on behalf of my dear friends, Sarah and James, who are enduring every parent’s worst nightmare — the loss of their beloved son, Leo.

We’re heartbroken to share that our dear friend Alex passed away far too soon. His light, his laughter, his incredible spirit — they touched so many, and his absence is deeply felt.

Hi everyone — Angela here, writing on behalf of Matthew (for now). On December 6th, completely out of the blue, Matthew suffered a severe stroke.
