I Survived a Head-On Collision — But I’m Still in Pain Every Day
Hi, my name is Elizabeth. I’m a writer, a reader, a lifelong cat lover (I have five!), and a big fan of Dungeons & Dragons. I love using my imagination, but right now, my reality is a lot harder than any story I could make up.
On January 27, 2024, I was hit head-on by a man driving the wrong way down the road.
The crash was so bad I had to be cut out of the car. It’s a miracle I survived.
I broke my spine, arm, hand, and my ankle.
I spent 10 days in the hospital and have had four surgeries. I’ve done months of physical therapy, and I’ve worked hard to recover — but I’m still not okay.
The man who hit me was uninsured. He faced no consequences, and he has nothing to sue for.
Meanwhile, my uninsured motorist coverage wasn’t enough to cover my $250,000 in medical bills.
It’s been over a year, and I still walk with a limp. Every step hurts. The screws from my ankle surgery are pressing into the wrong place and removing them could help me walk normally again.
But I can’t afford the surgery.
I want to be able to walk without pain. I want to take care of my cats, go for walks, join friends in a yoga class, and feel like myself again.
I never thought I’d be here, writing this. But I’ve exhausted every other option, and I just want a chance to move forward — literally and emotionally.
If you can give, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
If you can’t, please share my story. Every bit helps.
