Hey! My name is Holden Davies. I’m a working artist, educator, and activist. I’m also nonbinary, and have been socially and medically transitioning for the past three years. If you’re on this page, you are likely someone who loves me, or someone who knows someone who loves me. Hi! It’s so nice to see and/or meet you!
I am finally in a comfortable enough place with my transition to begin preparation for top surgery, or chest masculinization surgery. This procedure used to be covered by most insurances, including HealthFirst Medicaid (my insurance) but with recent changes in our federal government, many companies preemptively have switched to a prior authorization model. (Yes, even with Prop 1 passed in NY!) Even with sufficient documentation from medical professionals that have known me for years, a board of people who have never met me can (and likely will) deny my claim to save some cash.
Anyone who knows me knows that I am not very good at asking for help. However, I would not be resorting to this if I didn’t feel as though it was imperative to my continued quality of life. With top surgery, I will finally feel comfortable enough to get into shape, to wear what I want to wear, to stand up straighter, to move how I want to — all things that add up to a more comfortable, confident presence in the world.
If you have even a dollar, I would appreciate your help — every bit counts and helps. I will be totally transparent about where your money is going, as I am still paying for part of this myself. If we make it further than the ultimate end goal, the money will be used to help pay rent and bills while I am recovering, as I will be unable to work as a technician or a teacher.
I thank you from the bottom of my weird woolly little heart. My support system is the best there ever was. I love you forever <3
