On June 10, our dear friends Melanie and Garret welcomed their daughter, Scarlett June, into the world much earlier than expected—at just 26 weeks. Weighing under 2 pounds at birth, Scarlett entered life as a preemie and was immediately placed in the NICU, where she has been fighting with incredible strength and resilience ever since.
Thanks to the care of her medical team and the unwavering love of her parents, Scarlett is doing remarkably well—meeting many goals and showing us all what it means to be a fighter. Each day brings new milestones and new hope, but the journey ahead remains long and uncertain.
Melanie and Garret are facing what no new parents should have to face alone: the emotional and financial strain of extended hospital stays, time away from work, and the unknowns of future medical needs. Even with insurance, the out-of-pocket expenses for medical care, specialized equipment, and basic living costs continue to grow.
