Help Shellie’s family care for her

Hi Family and Friends,

My name is Renae Green and I am starting this fundraiser on behalf of my sister, Shellie Holland, and her family.

Last Halloween she had a stroke and from that event, she was diagnosed with Moyamoya syndrome. Since this diagnosis, the doctors determined that she needed brain surgery to create a vessel bypass in her brain. If she didn’t get the bypass, her chances of having a fatal stroke were imminent.

On April 2nd she had her first surgery and was sent home 3 days later. She was recovering well and then about a month later (April 30th) her face swelled up and she was rushed to Harborview to undergo another surgery to determine what kind of infection she had and to drain the fluid build up.

As you can imagine, we were all devastated that she had to have another operation. The doctors cultured the fluid and infected areas and had to discard a piece of her temporal skull because it was so infected. She has been fighting this infection since and was sent to Good Sam rehab to undergo therapies and continue healing. She was all set to discharge on June 2nd and before she could leave, they performed another MRI to check the infection. IT HAD GROWN!! So they had to immediately send her back to Harborview to lance the incision and culture the spot again. They are now trying to determine if there is more than one type of bacteria growing in the area. It has now infected part of her brain tissue. So the current status is…we are waiting for the culture to grow….we are also hoping it will grow since she’s been on antibiotics for over a month now.

Maggie, Shellie’s daughter, and Tim, her husband, have been by her side constantly. This is all very overwhelming for all of us and especially Maggie and Tim who are trying to understand everything that’s going on AND trying to keep Shellie’s spirits up. Shellie is losing hope and faith. She has had 3 bran surgeries in 2 months through no fault of her own. She is working hard to regain skills such as speaking and understanding, walking and using her left arm and hand.

We are asking for help so that Maggie and Tim can stay in a hotel while Shellie is at Harborview. They need to be there all day to keep up on the plan of care for Shellie. Tim is currently retired and on a tight budget and Maggie, unfortunately, lost her job due to the care she needs to give her mom.

We would like to thank you for any help you feel led to give. We know that God is with us on every step of this journey and we are leaning into his faithful love and care.

Thanks everyone ❤️

Renae
