Family, friends and Kindhearted Strangers,
I am reaching out during this difficult time to ask for help for my sweet girl Sadie.
Sadie is a 6-year old dachshund who is full of love, energy and is the perfect coach potato buddy. She has been my best friend since the day I brought her home and has helped me through more than I can imagine or ever thank her for. And now she needs my help –and your help– more than ever.
Last week Friday Sadie started to favor her right leg and stopped using the stairs. We made an appointment with our normal vet, and they found nothing out of the ordinary, she just needed to take it easy for a few days and she was supposed to be right as rain. Fast forward to Sunday –we got back home after being gone and Sadie could no longer walk, when just a few hours before she was starting to play again. She was dragging her back legs, barely standing and could only move a few steps with her front legs before falling over. Terrified I rushed her to the animal hospital.
At the hospital she was diagnosed with IVDD in addition to a slipped/fractured disc that was pinching her spinal cord. She was taken into urgent surgery right after her MRI to relieve the pressure on her spinal cord. Without the urgent surgery her chances of ever regaining use of her back legs were slim to none. With the surgery her chances to regain leg function jumped to 95-99%.
There was never a hesitation to give my girl the surgery she needed to be able to take her life back. Her medical team is extremely optimistic of her prognosis, and we are now working towards slowly recovering from this invasive, but lifesaving surgery.
Unfortunately, the cost of surgery, in addition to specialized neurological care (to prevent further IVDD complications) and physical therapy are overwhelming.
I am humbly asking for any support you can offer, be it a donation, sharing her story, a prayer, or simply sending Sadie your love and well wishes for a speedy recovery. Any bit of help and support gets us closer to having Sadie back to her loving, outgoing, sunbathing, ball chasing self.
I cannot express how thankful I am for the love, support and well wishes for my girl.
With Love
Lisa
