- Ryan suffered a TBI as a victim of crime on 3/15/25. He is not a candidate for victims’ relief funding due to his past related to drug use and mental illness. Ryan has suffered from mental illness as a child since age 4 and has never been able to keep a job or has been in and out of the justice system. Ryan has never been a violent offender. He started using drugs as a teenager, as this is common with co-occurring disorders. He was never diagnosed as autistic, as this was never considered early on in the 90s. I attempted to obtain disability in his early teens but was denied. Ryan was living in a sober living house and suffered a relapse, ending back on the streets where he was brutally attacked. The offender was charged with premeditated murder. Ryan now suffers from memory loss, right-sided deficit, hearing loss, and loss of peripheral vision. I’ve been trying to get him approved for Medicaid and SSI. He was denied by many rehabs due to his age or labeled “Not Appropriate” or because of his age (31). He will need long-term treatment as he suffers from early onset dementia. I’ve applied for ADP and long-term services due to his disability but have seemed to exhaust all resources unless you have finances of 30k a month or “good insurance.” I recently lost my job and have minimal support from family. He is attending adaptive outpatient therapy and is a member of a local TBI support group. Any support or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
