How it started
Queen Bassey Akpoke dazzled everyone with her warmth last year: she passed JAMB and, while awaiting university admission, helped her parents at home and lit up a nursery classroom each day.
This year everything changed. Sudden breathlessness led to tests that uncovered aggressive lung and liver cancer already at stage III. Overnight her parents abandoned their fledgling school for their dream to fund Queen’s fight.
Now they face mounting hospital debts while watching their vibrant daughter endure draining liters of fluid from her lungs, so excruciating the doctors insist on two-day pauses between procedures.
