Help My Mom Heal After Life-Changing Surgery
My mom is the strongest woman I know. She’s a survivor, a caregiver, and a true fighter, but now, she needs help.
On June 26th, my mom will be undergoing a leg amputation. This isn’t a choice anyone wants to make, but after over a year of battling a severe infection that just won’t heal, there are no other options left. She’s been on countless antibiotics, including some of the strongest available. The only one that could help her long-term, penicillin, which she’s allergic to. Because of this, her doctors made the painful but necessary decision to amputate.
This infection isn’t just affecting her leg—it’s threatening her entire life. She also has Type 2 diabetes, which makes healing even harder, and renal disease that has left her in need of a kidney transplant. But before she can even be considered for a transplant, this infection has to be completely gone.
Amputation is the only way forward. The only chance to give her a shot at a new kidney, and a new lease on life.
But we can’t do this alone.
My mom has been a nurse for over 20 years. She has poured her heart into caring for others, saving lives, holding hands, and bringing comfort to those in pain. Now, she’s the one who needs care.
She’s also a breast cancer survivor, another battle she fought with grace and grit. But this latest fight is taking a toll on her physically, emotionally, and financially.
More than anything, my mom is a Mamaw to a fun loving 4 year old, who absolutely adores her. They share a bond that lights up their world, and we want to make sure she can continue being there to play, laugh, and love him the way only a Mamaw can. She’s also a proud pet momma to her sweet companions, Zekee and Willow, who never leave her side.
And she’s a proud mom to her son who is actively serving in the Navy. More than anything, she wants to be standing strong, literally, by the time he comes home, so she can wrap her arms around him and give him the hug she’s been waiting so long for.
We’re asking for help to ease the financial burden of this major life change. Your donations will help cover:
•Home accommodations for post-surgery recovery
•Medical supplies and transportation
•Time off work for her husband to stay home and care for her
•Future kidney transplant evaluations and travel
•Basic living expenses while they focus on healing
Every dollar helps. Every share helps. We know times are tough for many, but if you’ve ever had someone like my mom hold your hand through a hard time, you know how much it means.
Please consider donating or sharing this fundraiser. Let’s give my mom the same love and support she’s given so many.
Thank you for standing by us.
With love,
Kayla
