Kaysim is a courageous nonbinary Sudanese activist currently trapped in Uganda, where being LGBTQI+ puts them at constant risk. As a close friend and fellow activist, I’ve seen firsthand how much Kaysim has done for our community—helping more than five LGBTQI+ Sudanese people relocate to safer countries. Now, Kaysim is facing a life-threatening medical emergency and urgently needs support for a hiatal hernia surgery.
Accessing healthcare in Uganda is extremely dangerous for someone like Kaysim. The threat of exposure, arrest, or abuse is real, and the window for safe treatment is closing fast. The funds raised will cover the cost of the surgery, hospital stays, and essential medication during recovery. This support will also help provide safe housing while Kaysim heals and awaits relocation after their visa extension.
This June, as we honor Pride’s spirit of resistance and love, we have a chance to turn solidarity into life-saving action. Kaysim deserves safety, healthcare, and freedom. By coming together, we can show Kaysim and all marginalized LGBTQI+ people that they are not alone. Your support can make the difference between hope and despair, and help save a life.
