Help Me Save My Uncle Jorge – A Second Chance at Life
My heart is heavy as I write this. It’s taken all the strength I have to reach out and ask for help. I’ve always been the one others come to for support, but today, I’m the one asking — for someone I love deeply: my uncle, Jorge André.
Jorge is 56 years old and lives in the Dominican Republic, where access to proper healthcare is extremely limited—especially for those without private insurance. I’ve cared for him since I was 17, supporting him however I could. But now, I can’t do this alone.
In December of last year, my uncle was the victim of a hit-and-run. At the time, he was homeless and struggling with addiction. That tragedy, however, became a turning point — he decided to change his life. I placed him in a rehab center, and for the first time in years, he was clean, safe, and full of hope.
But shortly after, his health began to collapse.
He started losing weight rapidly. He lost mobility in both legs. He became unable to urinate on his own and now relies on adult diapers daily. He was diagnosed with diabetes. He is in constant, unbearable pain, and recently, he has started retaining fluid, which is causing swelling and further complications.
Doctors suspect he may need a leg amputation, but before that can even be considered, he needs more testing, lab work, and proper medical evaluations—none of which he can receive without upfront payment. He has also become mentally unstable, possibly due to the combination of his trauma and untreated medical conditions.
He has no one else to care for him. I am his only support.
I’m a mother of four, and I’ve done everything I can to care for him—spending what little I had to keep him housed, fed, and safe. But now, the expenses are too much: blood transfusions, medications, daily supplies, medical transportation, and the desperate need for a long-term care solution.
That’s why I created this fundraiser
Your donation will help cover:
Urgent blood transfusions and medications
Medical tests and evaluations
Adult diapers and daily care supplies
Transportation and hospital visits
Placement in a hospice or care facility, where he can receive proper medical attention and dignity
Even the smallest donation—$1, a repost, a prayer—can make a difference in Jorge’s life. I know times are hard for everyone, but we’re fighting to give him a second chance. Please, help me save my uncle.
with all my heart and deepest gratitude,
Abby
