I’m creating this fundraiser to support a family very close to my heart who is going through something incredibly painful and overwhelming, both emotionally and financially.
About a year ago, Hector was diagnosed with stage 2 tonsil cancer. During testing, doctors also discovered a separate primary lung cancer in its early stages. He bravely fought both, and for a while, it seemed like he had won the battle.
Earlier this year, he was doing his follow-ups and everything appeared stable. But two months ago, he began experiencing persistent back pain. On May 27, he was hospitalized due to an episode of atrial fibrillation. While his family hoped it would be a short stay, his condition quickly worsened. He was discharged, but had to be readmitted a few days later on June 4.
During this second hospitalization, doctors discovered he had suffered multiple strokes, one of them acute. While in the hospital, he suffered yet another stroke. They also found a collapsed lung with fluid and confirmed that the cancer had spread to his brain and spine.
After weeks of uncertainty and heartbreak, he was sent home with hospice care. There is no further treatment that can be done, so the focus now is on keeping him comfortable and surrounded by love.
This has taken a toll on the family in every possible way.
Hector is the pillar of his home. A kind, humble, hard-working man who spent his entire life providing for his loved ones and helping anyone in need. He never asked for anything in return. He gave with his whole heart.
Now, his family is doing everything they can to care for him with that same strength and love, but the emotional and financial weight is heavy. This fundraiser is to help ease the burden of home care, medical equipment, and the many unexpected costs that have come with this rapid decline.
Any support, whether it is a donation, a share, or a prayer, means the world. Thank you for reading and for holding this family in your heart during this incredibly difficult time.
