Help Gai Keep Fighting: A Mother’s Bravery, A Family’s Struggle
For the past five years, our beautiful Gai — a devoted mother, wife, sister, and friend — has been waging an unrelenting battle against two rare and devastating illnesses: Mastocytosis and Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML).
• Mastocytosis is a rare and unpredictable disease where the body produces too many mast cells — a type of white blood cell that, in excess, can damage organs and trigger severe allergic reactions, chronic pain, and even life-threatening anaphylaxis.
• Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) is an aggressive and fast-moving blood cancer that starts in the bone marrow and spreads quickly. It requires urgent, intensive treatment and has no guaranteed cure.
Gai has endured endless rounds of treatment, faced unimaginable pain, and still held onto hope — for her children, for her husband, for life. But in recent months, her battle has intensified beyond anything her family could have prepared for.
After years of standard treatments failing to control her Mastocytosis, Gai was accepted into a clinical drug trial from the USA — a new tablet therapy offering a glimmer of hope. Sadly, due to a sharp decline in her overall health, she was forced to come off the trial. Her body simply couldn’t cope.
Recently, Gai’s condition deteriorated to the point where doctors made the urgent decision to place her into a medically induced coma so she could undergo further high-dose chemotherapy. That treatment has now been completed, but the recovery ahead is long and uncertain.
As if that wasn’t enough, Gai has also been placed on kidney dialysis, her organs struggling to keep up with the damage inflicted by both diseases and the aggressive treatment regimes.
Through it all, her loving husband Jason has been her rock, working full-time while caring for Gai and raising their three boys, aged 19, 14, and 12. But life delivered yet another cruel blow: Jason recently suffered a serious hand injury at work, leaving him unable to earn an income and adding further pressure to a household already buckling under stress.
The medical bills are mounting. Debt is closing in. The emotional toll is immeasurable.
This family has been stretched to its limits. And now — they need us.
