As many of y’all know, my sister Erin was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 27. She has been cancer-free ever since treatment in 2011. However, the treatment has left its own destruction behind. Erin and her husband Rob have been trying for several years now to grow their little foursome (yes, I’m counting the dogs) into a party of 5, or rather 3 humans, with no success. So, at the ripe age of 35 plus 6, they are taking the very expensive but hopefully successful scientific route… IVF.
Three ways you can help:
1. Donate – IVF is a huge financial burden and unfortunately, it is not covered by most insurances. One IVF cycle from egg retrieval to implantation can cost $25,000 to $30,000, not including the $6-7k for the meds.
2. Share – If donating is not possible, please consider sharing this so others may consider helping.
3. Pray – IVF is not always successful. Some couples have to go through IVF multiple times before their dream of being parents is realized. For Rob and Erin, though, they only have one shot. The amount of hormones that have to be taken for egg retrieval in the case of someone (like Erin) who has a prior history of breast cancer is extremely risky. Therefore, financial cost aside, they are only planning to try egg retrieval once to minimize the potential for a recurrence of breast cancer.
