Hi everyone, my name is Brittani.
For those who know me, you’re aware I’ve battled autoimmune issues most of my life. For those who don’t, I’d like to share why I’m asking for your help.
At just 9 years old, I was diagnosed with a positive ANA, marking the beginning of a long journey with chronic illness. As a child, I experienced frequent illness, unusual rashes, and joint abnormalities—but things significantly worsened in my mid-20s.
At 25, I began losing my voice, which remained gone for five years. Since then, my health has continued to decline: my skin has tightened and hardened, my hearing has deteriorated to 93% loss in both ears, and multiple organs have become involved. Over time, I’ve been diagnosed with Diffuse Scleroderma, Systemic Lupus, Dermatomyositis, Raynaud’s Syndrome, Pulmonary Hypertension, Chronic Pain Syndrome, Esophageal Dysmotility, Dysphagia, and more.
In 2015, I was declared terminally ill and given a life expectancy of approximately 14 years. I resisted going on disability for as long as I could, but after being placed on oxygen and facing the reality of my condition, I had no choice. While I receive Medicare, the co-pays and uncovered costs are financially overwhelming.
My doctors are now preparing me for a possible double lung transplant, and I’m undergoing extensive testing and treatments to evaluate my eligibility. On top of that, I’ve recently been diagnosed with adenomyosis, which puts me at risk for uterine cancer. After consulting over ten specialists, we’ve finally found a doctor willing to perform the emergency hysterectomy I need.
My husband and I are both disabled and, without children, we don’t qualify for additional assistance. We’re doing everything we can to manage, but we now face mounting medical bills, travel costs for appointments in San Antonio, Smithville, and Corpus Christi, and ongoing testing and treatment expenses.
If you’re able to contribute—financially or by sharing this fundraiser—we would be deeply grateful. Your support is not only helping cover urgent medical care, it’s giving me a chance to keep fighting.
With love and thanks,
Brittani
