Help Andrea Heal After a Devastating Burn Accident
Hi, I’m Blane Hajicek, and I’m starting this fundraiser for my close friend Andrea Galvis. On the early morning of Saturday, May 24, a fun night around a fire turned into a nightmare. A container of 90 % ethyl alcohol sitting too close to the flames exploded, dousing Andrea in burning fuel.
What Happened
Andrea ran straight to the bathroom to smother the flames herself, then drove to the hospital in shock.
Doctors found third-degree burns on her chin, neck, and upper chest. She was rushed to the regional burn center for emergency care.
The Road So Far
May 28 – Debridement & Cadaver Skin Graft
Surgeons removed dead tissue and placed donated (cadaver) skin to protect the wounds.
May 30 – Integra Dermal Graft
The cadaver skin was replaced with Integra, a synthetic layer that helps new skin grow.
Early June – Autograft (Her Own Skin)
Doctors took healthy skin from Andrea’s upper back and grafted it over the burns.
She has already endured three major surgeries, daily dressing changes, dozens of injections, and painful physical therapy sessions.
What’s Next
- Intensive rehab for at least a year to keep her neck and chest from tightening and restricting movement.
- A custom compression collar she must wear around the clock.
- Regular follow-up visits with burn specialists to watch for infection and thick scarring.
Why We Need Your Help
Andrea doesn’t have medical insurance. While the hospital may cover the life-saving surgeries up front, none of the rehab, supplies, or follow-up care is paid for. These costs can run well into the tens of thousands of dollars, and the bills are already piling up.
Your donation will go toward:
- Physical and occupational therapy sessions
- Compression garments and dressings changed several times a week
- Prescription medications and injections to control pain and prevent infection
- Travel costs for weekly burn-center appointments
- Basic living expenses while Andrea focuses on healing
Our Goal
We’re aiming to raise $15,000 to cover the first year of aftercare and give Andrea the best chance at a full recovery.
How You Can Help
Donate whatever you can, every dollar truly makes a difference.
Please share this page on social media, by email, or in a text. The more people who see Andrea’s story, the faster we can reach the goal.
Send a message of support. Encouragement keeps her spirits up during the long, painful rehab process.
Thank You
Andrea is a kind, hardworking woman who would never ask for help on her own. With your generosity, she can focus on getting better instead of worrying about bills. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading, donating, and sharing.
Let’s help Andrea heal and get back to the life she loves!
