My name is Layla. I’m 23, Saudi, and living in Virginia under political asylum. I came here because being myself back home meant risking everything. But even here, being trans isn’t easy.

I work two jobs—night shifts, double shifts, anything to stay afloat. I’ve saved up every cent I can for my transition surgery. The total cost is $6,500. I’ve already managed $3,500 on my own. I just need $3,000 more.

This isn’t about luxury or choice. This is about survival. Every day in the wrong body feels like I’m fading. But I keep pushing because I believe I deserve to live as who I am.
