Help Gaby Continue Her Fight Against Leukemia
Hi, I’m Andy, and I’m writing this for someone who means the world to me.
My best friend Gaby is currently fighting a rare and aggressive cancer called Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APL). Her body is under siege from not only the cancer, but also multiple autoimmune conditions that complicate her treatment. She’s been undergoing intensive chemotherapy, dealing with side effects like tremors, vision problems, pain, and extreme fatigue, and she’s still standing, still smiling, still showing up with more grace and grit than I’ve ever seen.
Her team of doctors is preparing to begin targeted treatment using IDH inhibitors (including enasidenib, ivosidenib, and olutasidenib), which can help her bone marrow produce healthy blood cells. But these medications are not fully covered by insurance. On top of that, Gaby still needs weekly labs, transfusions, blood pressure monitoring, and specialist care, all of which is piling up quickly and becoming unmanageable.
Through all of this, Gaby is still Gaby. She’s still checking in on people. Still cracking jokes. Still fighting hard for her kids, Michael and Francesca, and refusing to let this diagnosis define her.
And I want to be clear: Gaby isn’t just someone who needs help. She’s someone who gives help. When I was struggling Gaby selflessly stayed by my side. Her presence, her words, her loyalty… were medicine. She lifted me when I couldn’t lift myself.
Now, it’s my turn. Our turn.
Your donation will help cover:
* Chemotherapy and targeted IDH inhibitor medications
* Ongoing labs, imaging, transfusions, and specialist appointments
* Transportation to and from treatments
* Living essentials like groceries, utilities, and household costs
We can’t change her diagnosis, but we can lighten her load.
If you can donate, thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you can’t, please share this campaign with others. Every gesture counts. Every bit matters.
Let’s help carry her, the way she’s carried so many of us.
With love,
Andy
