Hello, my name is Jerylyn. I consider it a blessing to have our daughter and our 3 incredible grandbabies as our neighbors; it sure does make life a lot more fun! Our middle grandson, Asher, has been diagnosed as autistic with a speech impairment and a developmental delay. So essentially, he has sound sensory issues, is non-verbal, is a runner, as well as an escape artist, and has a general lack of awareness of fear. So it is a relief that they are so close as he does take a literal village to raise. We are truly fortunate to own the duplex we live in as it keeps our daughter and the grands close and it enables us to help keep her rent at a very low rate against what the outrageous rent fees are today.
Sadly, this year has been hard on all of us. Our daughter became a single mom in March 2025 when their dad left the family for reasons unknown. It’s tough on her being the sole caregiver of all 3 of her boys, but Gigi and Goppy help out as much as possible. The restaurant directly next door to our home expanded and installed a driving range parallel to our backyard along with a second parking lot. The side parking lot is connected to the restaurant and butts up against our side yard. This has been a nightmare for Asher and us, as he likes to run over to the outdoor stage, the driving range, and to both parking lots regardless if the vehicles are parked or moving. We have had a few run-ins with the owner of the business and he is a less than stellar person with no care for the safety of anyone but his bottom dollar.
Although Asher faces challenges with his day-to-day life, he is still a little boy that loves to play and run and should be able to, especially in his own yard and without the worry of so much danger!
A fence is no longer an option; it is a necessity! We need a form of a barrier to keep the restaurant/range patrons and our property separated and safe. Unfortunately, we do not have the funds and are asking for help. The fence has to be privacy and at least 6 ft. We have gotten quotes at $10,045. The local foundation for autism said they may be able to approve $1600, but they are unsure if or when those funds might be available. Any monies above what is needed for the fence will be put towards soundproofing Asher’s bedroom. The added extra noise from the restaurant patrons (which they allow their children to roam the grounds and our yard), the range, the concerts, and the traffic are so overwhelming for him that he can do nothing but cover his little ears and scream. This is a mother and grandmother’s worst fear.
If there is anything you can do to help Asher and his brothers, we would be overjoyed. Thank you for your time and consideration.
