I am collecting funds for my little sister, Lindsay. She is also known as Peach, Lizzer, and Aunt Lindsaya to those that love her. She is only 38 years old and has a devastating eye disease making her legally blind, wet macular degeneration. It is rare that this disease affects someone so young. We are trying to stop further progression of this awful disease so she can retain the small degree that is left of her vision.
The treatment she receives are eye injections that cost $3,000 an injection. This does not reverse the damage, but gives her a fighting chance to keep the little bit she has left of her sight. Currently, she is getting these injections every 4 weeks. She has tried going longer between treatments, but that only caused her to lose more of her vision. These injections at least give her a reprieve from total blindness, which is the end result. At 37, this is an awful conclusion to have to deal with for the rest of her life.
The insurance company does not pay for this injection as it is not a covered benefit. We are fighting to change that, but as of yet have not been successful.
