Hi, my name is Kira. I’m 24 years old, and I was recently diagnosed with Celiac disease — a serious autoimmune condition that makes even the tiniest trace of gluten dangerous to my health.
For people with Celiac, gluten isn’t just something we avoid by skipping bread or pasta. It can be hidden in sauces, or transferred through cross-contamination. Even food labeled “gluten-free” can be unsafe if it was processed in a facility that handles wheat. For me, accidental exposure leads to debilitating symptoms, days of recovery, and long-term damage to my digestive system.
Because of how easily gluten can hide in everyday life, a gluten-detection service dog has been recommended to me as a critical part of staying safe and independent. These specially trained dogs can sniff out even trace amounts of gluten on food, utensils, or surfaces before I eat — something that no human senses or technology can currently do as reliably.
A gluten-detection dog would be a life-changing tool. It would help me confidently navigate grocery stores, restaurants, social gatherings, and daily life without constant fear of getting sick. It would help reduce hospital visits, anxiety, and allow me to work, travel, and live more freely. Most importantly, it would give me back a sense of control over a condition that currently impacts nearly every aspect of my life.
However, these service dogs require extensive and specialized training, and the cost can range from $10,000 to $25,000 — something I simply cannot afford on my own.
I’m asking for help to raise funds to begin this journey. Every dollar brings me closer to living a safer, healthier life with the support I need. If you’re unable to donate, even sharing my story means the world to me.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping me take this important step.
