Donate to Enhance Otto Miller’s Mobility

Hello! My name is Otto Miller. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for your kind donation. I am 27 years old and have been living with paraplegia for 9 years after an injury sustained in January of 2016. I have started this fundraiser so that I might purchase a new, state of the art wheelchair that will drastically improve my quality of life. It is lightweight, durable, allows me to stand and move, and is comfortable. The problem with acquiring new wheelchairs is that my insurance will only cover a new chair every 5 years and the parameters for that chair are restrictive. This prevents me from buying new chairs from companies who make innovative and niche equipment. Without insurance, a new chair can be anywhere from 5-10 thousand dollars depending on the build and options chosen for the chair. I have other special equipment that allows me to go on off road trails, which is something I love to do and would love to do more of. This chair would help me do that more often and more efficiently. In the past, I have had many troubles getting new parts for my chairs or even scheduling repairs and have had to improvise, doing repairs myself with spare parts from my past and outdated chairs. I need one that will last me a long time while keeping up with my active lifestyle. I am currently working at the Glens Falls YMCA in Glens Falls New York, developing and teaching youth programs. This, however, is not enough for me to save up for extra equipment.
