I’m reaching out on behalf of my friend Donald “DJ” Kelley, who is currently facing a life-threatening health crisis and time is running out.
DJ has been diagnosed with Stage IV Liver Cirrhosis with Ascites. His liver is now functioning at only 25–30%. This isn’t due to drinking or lifestyle—it just hit him. His doctors have confirmed he needs a liver transplant ASAP, and things are progressing fast. Without it, his liver will fail completely.
He’s been doing everything he can weekly procedures, biopsies, TIPS surgery, endless bloodwork but his condition is worsening. On top of the physical toll, he’s now dealing with heavy depression, dizziness from high ammonia levels, and severe medication side effects. He’s grounded at home and can barely participate in the lives of his kids, which is hitting him harder than anything else.
Before this, DJ was always on the move, working, active, and present for his family. Now, he’s fighting to keep up emotionally and financially. The medical bills, travel, recovery, and basic needs are piling up. His old car is falling apart (no A/C, 25 years old), and Medicare doesn’t cover half of what’s needed especially not meals, transportation, or personal care items during transplant recovery.
We’re trying to raise $40,000 to help DJ cover:
Travel and lodging near the transplant center
Post-surgery medications and care
Basic recovery needs (food, toiletries, etc.)
Repairs or replacement of his vehicle so he can actually get to appointments
And relief from the growing pressure that’s crushing his peace of mind
This isn’t just about keeping DJ alive. It’s about helping him live again—being present for his kids, feeling like himself, and reclaiming the energy and freedom this disease has stolen from him.
