For the past few years I have had to work a thousand miles from home to make ends meet. I work three months at a time and return home for two weeks. My parents are elderly and their small social security checks will not cover the expenses it takes when approaching their 80s. Being unable to work at 80 years of age, my dad worked hard his entire life but received small amounts of income, and still made sure his family was sheltered and had food every day.
His hearing has suffered greatly and between the high inflation and the expensive cost of living, he cannot afford the $4,705 a hearing aid cost for the hearing loss he has suffered. He has Medicare, but Medicare will not pay anything towards the loss of hearing. I am the only family member that helps with his expenses and my income is suffering greatly because of the added expense of helping my parents in their remaining time left. I have paid the $4,705 for a hearing aid for my dad so he can enjoy the rest of his life instead of living in a silent environment. I am unable to pay my own bills because of the expensive hearing aid along with other expenses required to live an elderly life, but I’ll lose everything I have to help my parents because that’s what my dad did for his family. I really need help.
