My name is Vanita Faye Boger, and this is my story (A Wife’s Cry).
On April 15, 2025, I walked into Atrium Medical Center with my husband, Cedric Boger, expecting a routine heart catheterization. Instead, I watched everything change in a matter of hours. What was supposed to be a simple procedure turned into a life-or-death emergency. My husband ended up in the ICU fighting for his life. That night, they had to perform emergency surgery and place a heart pump in him. Nothing could’ve prepared me for that moment.
I stayed by his side every night, sleeping in a recliner for 57 days through every second, praying, crying, hoping.
On April 23, Cedric was officially placed on the heart transplant list. The doctors told us if he wouldn’t have come to the hospital, he would have died in 24 hours. The waiting began. Each day felt like a year. Our children and I held our breath, held on to faith, and held each other close.
Then, on Wednesday, June 4, we got the call to accept a heart. By Friday, June 6, just days later, my husband received the gift of life. That Friday will forever be Heart Transplant Day in our family. His new heart was placed, and I witnessed a miracle.
We are still here at Atrium Medical Center, walking through the long road of recovery together. Cedric is healing, and we expect to be here at least two more weeks.
This journey has tested us in every way, but it has also reminded me of the power of prayer, community, and love. I’m asking everyone to please continue praying for Cedric’s strength, for my strength, and for our children’s hearts as they go through this with us. We need every ounce of it.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who has supported us, prayed for us, and reached out. Your love is carrying us. I love you all so much.
We are fundraising to cover the extensive medical bills and ongoing recovery costs for Cedric’s heart transplant and ICU stay.
